Justin Verlander’s No-Hitter(along with other No-Hitters on this date)

On May 7th, 2011, Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Justin Verlander threw his second career no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays at Comerica Park, walking just 1 batter and striking out 4, while facing the minimum 27 batters. With the no-hitter, Verlander became the second Tigers’ pitcher since Virgil Trucks, and the thirtieth pitcher in the history of baseball, to throw multiple no-hitters. Oh, and Verlander threw 108 total pitches and was the second pitcher, Francisco Liriano, in the 2011 season to throw a no-hitter.Alex Avila was the catcher. Verlander also threw the no-no on the anniversary of Adonis Terry’s no-hitter in 1888 where he was pitching for the Brooklyn Bridegrooms against the Louisville Colonels in the AA league. On May 7, 1922, New York Giants pitcher Jesse Barnes threw the gem against the Philadelphia Phillies, winning 6-0 with the catcher being Earl Smith. It was also the 94th no-hitter in MLB history. On May 7th, 1963, Houston Colt .45s pitcher Don Nottebart threw the 150th no-hitter in MLB history against the Philadlphia Phillies with John Bateman being the catcher. On May 7th, 1998, New York Yankees pitcher David Wells threw the gem against the Minnesota Twins with Jorge Posada being the catcher. It was the 245th no-hitter in MLB history.
